Volunteer Positions

  • Point-in-Time (PIT) Count volunteers support the Iowa Balance of State Continuum of Care by helping gather vital data on homelessness across our communities. Volunteers assist with surveying, outreach, and connecting with individuals experiencing homelessness to ensure we capture an accurate snapshot of need. This role strengthens our statewide efforts to improve services, enhance collaboration, and work toward solutions that ensure everyone has a place to call home.

  • Grant Reviewers play an essential role in the Iowa Balance of State Continuum of Care’s annual Local Competition by evaluating project applications for clarity, impact, and alignment with CoC priorities. Reviewers provide objective scoring and constructive feedback that helps ensure funding supports effective, equitable, and community-driven housing solutions. This role strengthens transparency, promotes high-quality programs, and supports our collective mission to end homelessness across Iowa.

  • Agency Champions help amplify the mission of the Iowa Balance of State Continuum of Care by educating friends, family, coworkers, and community networks about our work and the importance of effective housing solutions. This role uses personal voice and advocacy to build awareness, inspire engagement, and support policies at the local, state, and federal levels that advance our shared goal of ensuring every Iowan has a safe, stable place to call home.

  • Meal Delivery volunteers support our Youth Action Board by preparing or purchasing a meal and delivering it to one of our meeting sites. Whether working individually or as a team, volunteers help create a welcoming, supportive environment where young people with lived experience can focus on advocacy and planning. This simple act of care helps fuel their work and strengthens youth voice in shaping local housing solutions.

  • This role supports the development of a statewide resource library that strengthens access to accurate, up-to-date information on housing and services. It offers hands-on experience in research, organization, and systems-level learning. Participants help ensure providers and communities have the tools they need to implement effective, informed practices.

  • The Social Media Intern will play a key role in sharing the story of the Iowa BoS CoC. This position is ideal for a creative, organized communicator who enjoys turning ideas into compelling visual and written content. The intern will help build awareness of homelessness issues, highlight partner successes, and engage the community through consistent and mission-driven messaging.
