This interactive 4-hour training will introduce participants to the ways trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences impact brain, biology, behavior, worldview, and self-concept with a specific focus on adolescent development and youth experiencing homelessness. We will discuss how secondary traumatic stress may impact providers and learn about and practice trauma-informed skills and strategies that promote youth and provider healing and wellbeing.

As part of the upcoming rollout of the Matching for Appropriate Placement (MAP) Assessment Tool on January 1, 2026, all staff who conduct Coordinated Entry (CE) intakes and assessments—whether online or on paper—are required to complete training on how to administer the new assessment with clients.
Please note that this requirement applies only to agencies within the Iowa Balance of State Continuum of Care and does not impact Polk, Pottawattamie, or Woodbury Counties.

The session will cover:

Best practices for collaboration, transparency, and maintaining participant choice.

Coordinated Entry Diversion Training
Join the Institute for Community Alliances in welcoming Kelsey Culver with the Iowa Balance of State CoC to talk about Coordinated Entry Diversion. This training will go over the basics of diversion specific to the Coordinated Entry System, and how to best assist clients is gaining stability outside of the system.
This training is a required topic for all staff completing Coordinated Entry Intakes and Assessments either on paper or in the database. If you have completed diversion training already this calendar year, you are not required to attend. All are welcome to attend any of these training sessions, so please forward this information to your peers and other partners in your work.
